Advent is a season observed in many Western Christian churches as a time of expectant waiting and preparation for the celebration of the Nativity of Jesus. Technically, Advent is the four-week period beginning on the Sunday nearest November 30, though many families traditionally begin their Advent celebrations on December 1. The word advent is derived from the Latin word adventus, which means “coming.” It is a time of anticipating the Nativity and the coming of Christ. Advent calendars are used to count down the days until Christmas. This post features some fun and educational activities that will happily occupy children during the Advent season.
