Play Geography Games Online

The following geography games and quizzes may not be as exciting as Carmen Sandiego, but you can play them online for free. I haven’t tried all of these yet, so I’m sure some are better than others; they’re in no particular order.

Geography Games for Kids – These fun and educational games were developed by the KidsKnowIt Network to help students develop and sharpen their geography skills.

GeoSpy – The GeoSpy Agency needs you! Help identify continents, countries, states and provinces and you’ll earn full GeoSpy status! From Maggie’s Earth Adventures, in association with National Geographic Kids.

GeoNet – A challenging geography game for children in grades 4 and above, from Houghton Mifflin Social Studies. Choose the United States or the World.

Geo-Globe – Interactive Geography Lesson from ThinkQuest. It’s an older game, dated 1997.

World Geography Games – By playing Sheppard Software’s geography games, you will gain a mental map of the world’s continents, countries, capitals, and landscapes. The games are divided into levels such as beginner, intermediate, advanced, and expert.

USA Geography Games – Sheppard Software makes it easy to learn the locations, capitals, abbreviations, and over 500 important facts about our 50 states. The newer games include speech and blurbs to make learning even more fun!

United States Geography Tutor – Learn the states in this free download from FamilyGames. Also available for free are European Geography Tutor and African Geography Tutor.

State Capitals – Select a state and choose the capital in this VectorKids game.

States and Capitals Game – Guess the states and capitals in these interactive quizzes from SchoolExpress.

U.S. State Capitals – A set of Quia games in which students can learn the state capitals by playing Concentration, Matching, Flashcards, or Word Search. Requires Java to play.

United States Geography – Online activities for learning about states, major land features, major cities, state capitals, rivers and lakes. From the makers of The Math Worksheet Site.

U.S. States and Capitals Map Puzzle – Learn the geography of the United States with a free downloadable map puzzle of states and capitals, from Owl & Mouse Educational Software.

Where is That? – The game where your mind is your map! Pick the maps and difficulty level you wish to play and click “Show Me the Maps” to begin. There is also a two player version. From Funbrain.

World Map Quizzes – Test your geography knowledge with these point-and-click map-based geography quizzes from Lizard Point Consulting. The world map quizzes are designed to help you learn the countries of the world as well as provinces/states, capitals and major cities.

World Atlas Geography Quiz – A $100 cash prize is paid to the person who submits the first correct answer, and anyone worldwide can participate, but the questions are DIFFICULT! Until solved, a new clue is added each weekday morning by 8:00am CST.

National Geographic Geography Games – Play geography games and learn about the world at the National Geographic Kids website.

GeoBee Quiz – The National Geographic Bee is meant for kids in grades 4-8. Are you smarter than a 4th grader?

The next one isn’t free, but it’s only $1.99 at your favorite app store.
