State Abbreviations

Do you know all of the standard state abbreviations and two-letter postal abbreviations for each state? StateAbbreviations.us features a table of U.S. states, districts, territories, and possessions, along with their capital cities and two types of abbreviations. Each state name contains a link to its official state government or tourism website. The site also includes a state abbreviations map.

Did You Know…? The United States Post Office instituted two-letter state abbreviations with five digit zip codes in 1963. These postal abbreviations should only be used in mailing addresses. Use the traditional state abbreviations with periods for all other purposes.
